Oh, yes, it inspired wank! Hell, it inspired wank in the book, and then the wank came back for the movie because the Harmonians decided that it's even more wonderful in the movie. But you know what? *grins with wanky, sadistic glee* I'm just going to drop every last pretense of trying not to be wanky myself here . . .
In both the book and the movie, Harry and Hermione never actually kiss. It's just an illusion created by a villain and shown to Ron to mess with Ron's mind. Ron has a thing for Hermione, but he feels insecure because Harry gets so much attention and Ron's always been in the shadows of his older brothers anyway, and the Bad Thing was trying to make him feel sad, jealous, and unworthy and so created this illusion to upset him. And that is the kiss that got the Harmonians all excited. VOLDEMORT SHIPS IT! The movie cut out the part from the book where Harry tells Ron that Ron has nothing to worry about because Harry loves Hermione like a sister, not a girlfriend. But the visuals, oh man . . . The fake!Harry&Hermione were these creepy CGI things right out of the Uncanny Valley! It was obviously not really them and kind of disturbing to look at even for (at least some of) those who are not Ron. That scene was anything but a win for Team Harmony. And yet there have been pro-movie!H/H posts popping up about how THEY KISSED YAY! And I'm just like "LOL, you're kidding, right?"
